This meeting is co-organized by the Western Office of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and Western Carolina University and is free of charge to all participants thanks to our generous sponsors. This meeting highlights the great science being done in the region and brings together participants from universities, industry, governmental/municipal agencies, and the broader community to share ideas and to foster collaborations. Presentations on all aspects of science including biology, chemistry, computer science, earth and environmental science, engineering, forensic science, geology, mathematics, physics, and more are welcome.

The 2019 Philly Phage Phestival will be held on November 16 at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Activities will include a keynote talk from Dr. Graham Hatfull from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as poster sessions featuring students from nearby SEA-PHAGES institutions, and faculty workshops that will cover additional topics relevant to the SEA-PHAGES project. Phall Phage Phair - 2019

The Virginia regional Phall Phage Phaire is being held at Longwood University in Farmville, VA on November 8, 2019. The event will start at 10:00 am and include posters, student talks, lunch, and a keynote speaker. The Phage Phaire is occurring in conjunction with the Va. State branch of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) annual meeting at Longwood. A keynote talk will be shared between the two meetings, and students will have the opportunity to attend the rest of the Friday sessions of the ASM meeting. South Central SEA-PHAGES Research Symposium - 2019

The Third Annual South-Central U.S.A. SEA-PHAGES Research Symposium will be held on the campus of the University North Texas in Denton, TX on April 12 - 13. SEA-PHAGES schools from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas are expected to attend. The meeting participants will discuss their research over student posters and faculty-led talks. Attendees are also invited to come to a talk on the UNT campus by Dr. Neil Shubin (author of “Your Inner Fish”) who will speaking at 3pm on Friday, April 12 as part of the UNT Biology Graduate Student Association’s Research Day. Midwest Regional SEA-PHAGES Symposium - 2019

The meeting will include student presentations, a keynote address, time to socialize with other SEA student scientists, and a hack-a-thon. The Florida SEA-PHAGES Symposium was held on the campus of Florida International University on April 21. Five SEA-PHAGES schools from the area, which include Florida International University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Indian River State College, University of South Florida, and Hillsborough Community College attended the meeting. Meeting attendees discussed their research in oral and poster presentation sessions, and enjoyed a keynote presentation by Dr. Welkin Pope.
Western Pennsylvania SEA-PHAGES Symposium

The first Western Pennylvania SEA-PHAGES Symposium was held on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh on April 8. Four SEA-PHAGES schools from the area, which include Carnegie Mellon University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Seton Hill University, and University of Pittsburgh attended the meeting. The ~35 meeting attendees participated in a poster session, a session discussion CRE implementation, and enjoyed a keynote presentation by Dr. Graham Hatfull.

South Central SEA-PHAGES Research Symposium - 2018

The Second Annual South-Central U.S.A. SEA-PHAGES Research Symposium was held on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, LA, on April 13 - 14. Seven SEA-PHAGES schools from the area, including Del Mar College, Le Tourneau University, Ouachita Baptist University, University of Central Oklahoma, Tarleton State University, University of North Texas, and UniVersity of Louisiana at Monroe attended the meeting. The 85 meeting participants discussed their research over 25 student posters and 4 faculty-led talks. The keynote speaker was Dr. Vassie Ware of LeHigh. The meeting also included a faculty-panel discussion.

The 2017 NYC Regional SEA-PHAGES Student Symposium will be held at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY on Saturday April 8, 2017. This year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Paul Turner from Yale University, a phage biologist that is changing the landscape of infectious disease treatment. Student posters will be organized into two 1 hour sessions, and the four best registration submissions (as judged by the SEA-PHAGES faculty) will be invited to present their work as a 10-15 minute talk. First Annual South-Central USA SEA-PHAGES Research Symposium

The First Annual South-Central U.S.A. SEA-PHAGES Research Symposium is an opportunity for current students in SEA-PHAGES institutions to meet one another and share their research. The 2017 meeting will be held on the campus of LeTourneau University in Longview, TX beginning on Friday, April 7 in the afternoon and continuing through noon on Saturday, April 8. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Steve Cresawn of James Madison University and creator of the Phamerator application. The meeting will also feature student oral and poster presentations, as well as faculty presentations on the alternative hosts of Arthrobacter, Rhodococcus, and Streptomyces.
