Numbering on Frames Page

| posted 30 Jan, 2024 15:39
Hello,

For some reason when I click on ORF on the frames page, I can see the gene number above each gene. However, the students (who are using our computers with DNA master loaded) only see the gene span with no number. Is there an easy settings fix to this?

Thank you,
Jacob

Jacob,
Hmmm. I am not sure. Is it a color thing? Go to preferences and change the colors and see if that fixes it.
Are there "names" in the feature table of the DNA Master file? (that is where the numbers come from.)

Hi Debbie,

We did try changing the color preferences of the forward (+) and reverse (-) genes in the frames page. Still did not result in being able to see the gene numbers above the ORFs on the Frames page.

Hi Jacob,
1. Please send me the file from one of the computers. (not from your computer.)
2. What version of Windows are you using? My guess is that those computers are missing a driver or help file.
3. Check the DNA Master folder, where the drivers are stored. Check to see if the files listed match yours.)

Hello Debbie and Jacob -

I see these posts are from 2-year ago and I know we are reducing the work done through DNA Master, but I still find and Frames window helpful in several ways. And having the gene numbers appears above the gene boxes is extremely helpful! But we are seeing the same issue (no numbers above gene boxes in the Frames window) this year and I can't identify why? Was this issue ever resolved from 2 years ago? If so can you post the solution?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,
This is tough to troubleshoot because of the inability to make changes in DNA Master's code right now.
What version of Windows are you using? This is likely due to helper files from Windows.
When did you last install/update DNA Master. Have you updated you computer since? I would recommend that you do a reinstall, using the Genomics Guide's set of directions, Section 2.5.
Best,

Thanks Debbie - I don't know the Windows version but can check. And I can do the other recommendations and see if that fixes things. I agree it is likely a Windows-DNA Master thing as I still see the gene numbers when running the DNA Master file on my old Mac.
