Important DNA Master Update

Some very important changes have been made to DNA Master to accommodate NCBI's new secure https protocols. Versions of DNA Master from before this date will not be able to connect to NCBI and thus will not be able to auto-annotate genomes or run BLAST.

Updating your DNA Master will allow you to be able to use NCBI's new protocols. See this blog post for more information.

Persistent Glimmer Failure Remedies
Glimmer failures during auto-annotation are most likely due to an ability for that computer to connect to NCBI (where Glimmer resides).
Possible explanations are:
1. The Glimmer site is down. But since some computers connect, that is unlikely.
2. The program is not updated. This is difficult to tell because if when the update button is pushed and the program could not connect to the DNA Master website, the response message is “this version is up-to-date”. Do not assume that if you receive this message, your program is up-to-date. To clarify, check the build number, it must be Version 5.23.1 Build2490 03 Dec 2016. (To check go to Help -> About)
3. It could be that the server (ncbi) got too many requests at the same time, so not all connected. Which means “try again”.

Hi Dan,

The recent email from SEA-PHAGES says "INSTALLING THE SEA-PHAGES VIRTUAL MACHINE IS NO LONGER REQUIRED OR RECOMMENDED."

But we still need the Virtual Machine to run DNA Master, right? Thanks.

Hi Cuong,
You will need some way to access Windows for DNA Master. the "SEA Virtual Machine" specifically refers to a frozen Ubuntu image that contains Phamerater and STarteror pre-installed.

Best,
Welkin

Hi Rick,

Did you update DNA Master? Try running an update. (Help–>Update DNA Master)

Then restart and check your version. (Help–>About) The latest version is:

Version 5.23.2
Build 2583
15 May 2018

Thanks Dan, the version i have is updated, but where do i see the info above about the build, i dont see it in the preferences. I can say that the secure window does not look exactly like the notes I saw as its missing one of the check boxes. I also am getting a "cant load SSL library when I tried to blas a single gene.
