Capsid maturation protease and MuF-like fusion protein

| posted 01 Mar, 2018 15:40
UPDATED MARCH 2021 TO REFLECT DISCUSSION BELOW

Cluster B phages do not have a separate capsid maturation protease and scaffolding protein. instead, they have a great big long protein called a capsid morphogenesis protein. a capsid maturation protease and MuF-like fusion protein.

I don't think capsid morphogenesis protein is on the approved functions list. Could someone add it please? Thanks!

Hi Sara and students,
I believe we took the function "capsid morphogenesis protein" on purpose. As I review the HHPred for this gene I am inclined to call it "capsid maturation protease and MuF-like fusion protein". What do you think?

We originally called it a capsid maturation protease but don't see a scaffolding protein so I thought, based on Welkin's message we should rename it. I'm good with capsid maturation protease. Maybe take this thread down. It confused us smile.

As of Dec 2022, are we leaving off the MuF part, based on this update from Debbie? https://seaphages.org/forums/topic/4628/

So now just: capsid maturation protease?

(I am annotating Usavi (B1). The gene is here: https://phagesdb.org/genes/Usavi_CDS_10/)

In the final annotation of Usavi, would it be Usavi_9 that is the example of this call, rather than Usavi_10? https://phagesdb.org/genes/Usavi_CDS_9/
